A great piece on multitasking. Who will read it while being the least-distracted? I read this while eating lunch, exchanging a few IMs with Bigi, and later talking to my mom on the phone.

Nice find.
Multitasking’s a hot topic among IMDers, with zealots on both sides. There are people who are completely sold on the entire “backchannel” that we get going on seminar nights, where people get in to talk about what the speaker’s speaking about … and the chat screen shows up on three of the fourteen, so even the speaker can see this extra channel of attention being diverted away from him/her. Way to broaden the intellectual debate or lessen it? Hard to say.
I read the article straight, btw… no IMs (but it’s 3:00 AM so it’s not like I wouldn’t have if there were someone to talk to :P ) and I don’t even have iTunes going, but I can hear Spark playing some game on an emulator. I find that I don’t really do much really intensive multitasking these days, I don’t think. At the most it’ll be one major activity and then listening to music (or TV). And IMing. >_>;
On another note, a really good book tends to steal all of my attention whether I want it to or not.
