Sometimes, you just gotta force yourself.

Every week, I’ll pump out some sort of weblog design or website design in the form of a 980×600 image. It probably won’t be a practical design and might not be any good. I won’t start before Monday and I’ll try to post it before Friday is over. Yes, I’m already late and it’s only the first week.

These past few years, I’ve felt pressure to be on-task at work and likewise I’ve felt pressure to do the necessary chores in my free time (sleep, cook, clean, work out). I’ve intentionally suppressed the act of processing ideas so I can stay (somewhat) focused on work and chores. Consequently, processing ideas is now a conscious act for me whereas before it was a subconscious act.

The problem with that is it’s very hard for me to come up with an idea and refine it all in an hour. In fact, I find it almost impossible to even start knowing that if I step over my time limit, I’ll be going to sleep later and waking up later and getting to work later (I prefer not to be the very last person to get to work even though sometimes I am). I need to let my brain chew on ideas throughout the day; and I need to let my brain be on the lookout for ideas throughout the day.

With this activity, I am taking a stand. I am a creative person and this is my preferred outlet. If it means leaving work a little prompter than usual, going out to eat a little more, or sleeping a bit less, so be it.
