Designing website mockups in Photoshop is like building a house of cards. Each element seems to demand exponentially more thought and care than the one before. Soon, the burden of it all feels suffocating and not much fun at all.
A few designs ago, I had this idea to set aside a couple hours each week to diddle with Photoshop—no goals, just mess around with effects and such. Sadly, that remained an idea. All my time in Photoshop was spent on mockups, even if I ended up just thrashing around.
Then Layer Tennis came back.
I never paid attention to Layer Tennis (formerly known as Photoshop Tennis) before. I think I was aware of its existence, but I never checked it out. Seeing it now was quite an eye-opener. It felt so free and fresh and exhilarating—and I was merely watching! Wouldn’t it be great if we held our own LT matches?
And so, we did. Last Saturday was already our third series of matches and I can safely say LT is what I look forward to the most each weekend.
