This is my Vista
Categories: Announcements, Design
In the end, I just wanted to throw it up there. It’s a combination of really hating my previous choice of Trebuchet MS for body copy and really hating staring at this design for so long (since May) without anyone else being able to see it.
With this design and the previous two, I think I have improved many different areas of my skills. Each have distinct pros and cons though. Hopefully I can line up more pros next time.
Anyway, short summary of what I was going for with this design…
I wanted a 1024-width design where the post content used more than 50% of the width. In my previous designs, single-post pages seemed so bland because the post content took up less than half of the page width and the areas next to the text weren’t visually interesting. The downside of how I handled this problem is that this design isn’t efficient with space. Quite a bit of whitespace around all of the content.
I also wanted to aggregate links and posts into the same space similar to Kottke and Daring Fireball. Since I don’t write posts that often, a post column often gets stale.
I’m not sure what else to say at this point… oh yeah, no search field yet, no archives, and I haven’t styled the comment form. Hahaha, business as usual. =/

“Too much… or too sexy?”
Too sexy :O
The first thought that came to my mind: “…this layout would be perfect for longer, extended entries!”
Love the typeface selections.
You’re layouts have always been blue, haven’t they? Cept that caramel one from way back.
I’m particularly fond of the comment page styling. Numbers on the right =
